If You Never Try, You’ll Never Know

Make a habit of trying new things…

The start of a new year is a perfect time to try something new. No, I’m not talking about sticking to your diet and hitting the gym… but hey, maybe that is a new thing you want to try! I’m focusing more on the fun of trying new things to maybe find a new hobby or a new passion! You never know what could come out of a new experience, maybe it’s just a new friend? You may hate it and you may fall in love with it, you never know until you try! You might surprise yourself, you may find out you’re good at something that you would never have expected?

Do you have a bucket list or anything that you’ve always wanted to do or try but never make that time for yourself? Do it! Why the heck not? It doesn’t have to be anything as crazy as skydiving *or maybe it is*, it can be the simplest of things like trying out a new fitness class or a cooking class, heck jump on the blogging train. Lol because everyone is nowadays!

Since I’m suggesting y’all take some time for yourselves to try something new or do something that you might fall in love with (or hate but that’s ok too, lol)… I decided to choose two things that I will be trying this year!

I want to add that maybe it doesn’t have to be something new, maybe it’s something that you’ve tried before but fear held you back or you just never let yourself have the time to do what you love… I say this because some of my things are hobbies that I’ve always loved, something I let go of and something I tried once more but fear held me back.

Here we go…

  1. Hip Hop Dance/ Fitness Classes… listen, I started dance when I was three years old. The stage is where I shined and where I felt happiest. I quit after so long because I played so many sports that I didn’t have time *mistake*. My strengths are in performing and I picked that back up and three other categories in the show-biz when I was 13. Long story short, let’s fast forward ten years to now and I miss dancing like crazy. How I feel after, the creativity, the stress relief, and the workout. I went to a couple hip-hop fitness classes last year and I LOVED every second of the first one and the next two, I didn’t so much. I felt rusty and the fear of not getting it got too me too much, which sounds so dumb. My head is in a clearer and healthier place starting out this new year though, I’m much happier in life and I want to start this back up again! Try it! Grab some comfy pants that you can move in and your favorite campus t-shirt or college hoodie from our amazing shop here at Barefoot Campus Outfitter.
  2. Volunteering! I’ve always wanted to volunteer and honestly, my schedule never allows it BUT new year, new me. I have to make the time to do the things I want to do. There are plenty of Saturday mornings I spend sleeping in when I could get up to go volunteer at an animal shelter or somewhere that needs my help! I’ve always wanted to be apart of the Big Brother, Big Sister program and I’m really interested in looking further into that and making time to spend some time giving back that way. My degree choice and study focus has me set on working with children, focusing on child development and abnormal behaviors… so any ideas of how I could volunteer or get involved that way would be greatly appreciated!

See, your couple or few things don’t have to be anything extravagant if you don’t want them to be! You don’t even have to pick a couple, maybe you just want to try out one thing and that is okay too! That one thing might push you to another or open another door for you to try something else. This life is yours to live, so the point in all this is find something that makes you happy and do it! You’ve got to make time for yourself to keep a healthy mind and soul in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

I hope that I’ve sparked some interest into your minds! I know everyone is probably still worn out from the holiday season… but it’s back on that grind time! January 2nd, 363 more chances in this new year! Don’t forget to start the year off right by updating your wardrobe with some quality campus clothes or college wear! In the meantime…

God bless,

-M
